Stratalam - New Standards in Excellence

What is Stratalam

Stratalam - The New Generation Glulam

Over a century of performance in use.

First used in 1893 to construct an auditorium in Basel, Switzerland. Now with 21st Century technology, glulam has come into its own as an environmentally friendly and economic building material. Sustainability is now becoming an everyday consideration in construction. Stratalam is uniquely suited to meet the growing demand for a technologically innovative solution that provides genuine and measurable sustainability advantages.

Stratalam is made from a number of graded, kiln dried and selected full length timber pieces. These are usually 45 mm thick and glued together. Their grains are aligned parallel to each other and bonded with an advanced proven adhesive. This forms a solid member of practically any length, shape or size. The lamination process means that any slight defect in any single piece of timber, for example a small knot, is compensated for by the strength of the other laminations above and below. In fact, most defects are simply removed prior to the laminating process. Stratalam structural beams can be custom built to almost any shape and size, allowing the designer greater freedom in design and form.
